Why Juan William's firing is good for America

Juan WilliamsThe news media has been abuzz this week over NPR's decision to fire Juan Williams. They say he broke their policy on speaking his opinion on other shows. I'm not going to ponder whether he did or not. Or if he did, the merits of such a  rule. It's a known fact that Juan himself has been offering his opinions for months on the Fox News Network, without much consequence. And there are other NPR Journalists that have said controversial things outside of the NPR walls  that to the public's knowledge was never challenged. This rule obviously wasn't enforced.  I would rather address what I think this means going forward!

Maybe this wasn't good for Juan, (maybe it is) but this is good for America on several different levels! Why? Because we are all talking! Talking about corrupt media, about what "Free Speech" means, about our own personal feelings to Muslim People, and for the moment, most seem to be listening to all sides.

America is drowning itself in Political Correctness! Don't you find it amazing that Christianity can be attacked daily on news programs, but Islam is off limits?  Tax payers money going to NPR? I really don't like the thoughts of my money supporting a Nina Totenberg. If you are liberal and disagree, then think about your money going to support Rush Limbaugh's show on NPR. There is no place for such bias in organizations that look to Government Funding to support them . Can a Journalist have "Free Speech?" Or is this just something that other Americans have rights to? And where are the minorities on NPR? Mr Williams has been the only visible one for the ten years he was employed by them! And finally, why do all news outlets seem to have a political agenda? Sadly, I don't think this latest NPR debacle will adequately address this last question . . . . Whatever happened to just reporting the news?

I miss Walter Cronkite.
